Chuck or Treat

We went to yet another Halloween even tonight. Yes, I know Halloween is technically over, but we had to go out with a bang. The BMX track in Desoto hosted a trunk or treat. Of course there was racing and candy, but also costume and pumpkin carving contests. They had a gigantic pumpkin pinata too. Even the trophies were Halloween style. I know because my cute husband won one (3rd place)! Of course, (this is becoming a habit) my older boys were at friend's houses and me, Chloe, Hayden and Jon went alone. And once again no one knew what I was supposed to be, big shocker. I did get to do the costume parade in front of the judges, which was not so fun because I was getting claustrophobic and hot. Plus, I kept tripping on my costume. In hindsight that probably helped, considering what I was.
Which brings me to the trunk contest. Ours was awful! I forgot several neat items that were needed to decorate Jon's truck. Like a giant blow up skeleton on a motorcycle, a skull with a fog machine inside, garland, and a black sheet. It looked very amateur. I pride myself on being somewhat creative/crafty but tonight I was WAY off. So, I think the "head judge" felt sorry for me and my silly costume and he awarded us a best decorations prize. Which made me laugh pretty hard. Seriously it was that bad. I am gonna post photos of the truck, but no nasty comments please. My ego was bruised just looking at my handiwork. Oh well, lesson learned. Be more prepared! Anyway, the highlight of my evening was breakfast for dinner at IHOP and remembering it was daylight savings! Yee-freaking-haw!

P.S. Chloe won a costume prize and I didn't get to see my hubby race or take a picture of him, oops!

Redneck Halloween

For the record, I don't really think me and my neighbors are rednecks. It just sounded like a funny title, and we did eat hot dogs in the driveway...

Tonight we did what we do every year- we loaded a flatbed trailer full of blankets and kids and went trick or treating. It seemed as if there weren't as many houses participating this year. Maybe it's the economy? I mean who likes giving away free candy when bread costs $4 a loaf...? Maybe it's because it was a Friday, who knows? We still had a blast. One thing we changed up was what we did after. Since it wasn't a school night, we had a cookout. I made chili, my friend Erin made queso with sausage, and my other friend Mia made Ro-tel dip. And, Nona's husband Jesse grilled up some tube steak (hot dogs). We had chili, chili dogs, plain hot dogs, nachos, chips, sauerkraut, cookies, soda, and of course: CANDY! The kids ran around and played and we even did a movie (Casper) on the projector outside. The trick or treating was a little chaotic, it always is, but the "after party" was AWESOME! I definitely broke my diet tonight. But, I am down 17.5 pounds and I am starting to see my cheekbones again, so who the heck cares! I am kinda bummed though, as my big boys (Chan and Hunter) are at an age where it's no longer cool to hang out with mom and dad. They both hung out with friends tonight. I remember when we used to be the center of their world. I miss those days, but realize that's just how life is. Either way, I love them to pieces and I am so proud of my sweet, handsome boys. Also, a big thank you to Chandler and his friend Cameron for carving 2 pumpkins and passing out Halloween candy for all 10 trick or treaters that came to our door.

Trunk or Treat

Tonight was our ward's Trunk or Treat. I am on the activities committee, so I got there early to help set up. It was a ton of fun, but after getting there early and running around in the HOT sun, I am sunburned and exhausted. There was lots of yummy chili and cornbread, and the ultimate- homemade root beer complete with lots of fog (dry ice). There were games and activities galore, trunk or treating, face painting, you name it. But, hands down, the #1 fave of every kid there: bounce houses. Those things never get old. And, best of all, they were loaned to us for FREE! How awesome is that? There were also some pretty cute costumes. Except for my kids. Being the un-cool mom that I am, I didn't let the kids wear theirs. I know, mean huh? But, I didn't want their costumes messed up, plus I found these groovy Halloween T-shirts that blinked. I, however did dress up. I made myself a pretty cool costume, and it only cost $1! The good news: I won a prize for most original costume, the bad: only 4 people knew what I was supposed to be. It was pretty funny to see people try and guess what I was. I am a tad disappointed though, I didn't think it was that hard to figure out. Oh well, I liked it. I did have a good time getting to socialize with people from church I don't know all that well. And, I got to see my friend Barbara from way back when and meet her kids. I am so glad the party went well, but I am also thankful it's over, 'cause I am worn out. I have a bubble bath and a new magazine waiting with my name on it.

Girls Only!

Today Jon and the boys headed to Waco to watch OU play Baylor (Go Sooners! Final score: OU 49- Baylor 17, yay OU!), so me and Chloe had a girl's only day. I let her choose the activity if I could choose the restaurant. Well, she chose the mall. Wouldn't have been my first pick, but to her the mall is like, amazing or something. I found it to be hot and crowded. People tend to flock to the mall as if the end of the world is coming. Put it this way, I'll NEVER go the mall on a Saturday again! We ended up eating first at my favorite place, P F Chang's where we shared lettuce wraps and crab wontons. Chloe isn't 100% fond of Chinese and I am still on this diet thing, so we just shared the appetizers and each had one of those shot glass desserts. Chloe had chocolate cake and I had carrot cake, Yum-O! We then went to Bath and Body Works for air fresheners, hand soaps, and bubble bath, and to Claire's so Miss Chloe could get her ears pierced again. Yes, I gave in. She now has two holes in each ear, but is only allowed a teeny earring in the top hole until she's older. She is very proud of her earrings, such a little princess. We made a final stop at Target and played with all of the Halloween goodies and bought a few necessities like Diet Dr. Pepper, Halloween Oreos, and some crazy candy I couldn't resist. We had a fun day, but we are both glad it's time to settle down, we are exhausted!

Mommy's Lil' Pun'kin

Last night after our "adventure", I decided I needed some chill out time. And the kids and I decided that looking at old photos is always fun and relaxing. So, we looked at photos for hours. I was specifically looking for favorites of mine and old pictures from when Jon and I were kids. I came across this one:It was "created" when I was 8 months pregnant with Hayden. The kids and I were bored and decided to paint Mommy's tummy, and what better way at Halloween than to do a jack-o-lantern? This picture has stumped alot of people, who at first glance thought I was holding a pumpkin.

Happy Halloween !

Thank goodness it's over! I am exhausted! Once again this year we tossed a bunch of kids and blankets onto a trailer and off we went. The kids had a ton of fun, but everyone is worn out! Especially me and Jon, we're getting old I guess. You'll notice the absence of Chandler and Hunter in these pics. Hunter was invited to trick or treat with a friend and Chan passed out candy for me. Hope everyone had a fun, safe Halloween! Now, I have Thanksgiving and Hayden's birthday to plan, YIPPEE!!
